Minnesota Roller Derby
Minnesota Roller Derby is a skater-owned, flat-track roller derby team in St. Paul, Minnesota. The league was founded in 2004 by the Donnelly sisters as Minnesota RollerGirls. As one of the founding members of the WFTDA (Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Association), Minnesota was among the first teams to have a public game, and was the first to have a home in a professional venue.
Minnesota Roller Derby is committed to empowerment for women, non-binary, and gender-expansive folks. In 2019, they updated their name and logo to reflect their commitment to athleticism and inclusivity. They provide a challenging and rewarding space to build community and give back. All of the league members are volunteers who not only skate and officiate, but also run the business.
All teams are local athletes that are members of the Minnesota Roller Derby league. Teams are up to twenty league skaters each. Home team games are fun and ferocious with rivalries both new and old each season. These events are family-friendly, and are favored outings for friends, birthdays and work groups.
Minnesota Roller Derby believes in community and works to better ours through volunteering and donations. They fiercely support the causes and groups that are important to them, and are grateful for fans who support and help them do so. Since 2004, they have been able to give over $80,000 to charities and work with others in the Twin Cities for events and fundraisers.
