Thousands are planning their pilgrimage to Saint Paul RiverCentre December 1-3 for the 30th annual St. Paul Ice Fishing & Winter Sports Show presented by CLAM. The show is the official kickoff to winter in the upper Midwest, and this year is the largest in history with more than 190 exhibits featuring more than 50 new products among the array of fish houses, augers, underwater cameras, digital fish finders, rods and reels, tackle, accessories, apparel and more.

This year’s show offers new merchandise and technology at a variety of price points from the most well-respected ice fishing and outdoors brands including but not limited to CLAM, St. Croix Rods, Ice Castle RVs/Fish houses, AquaTraction Marine Flooring, Marcum Technologies, Otter Outdoors, Polar Fox Outdoors, LLC, Snowdog LLC, and Striker Brands. New exhibitors to the show include Hunter Outdoor Products, Kul Products, and Snowfoot footwear. To mark the show’s 30th anniversary, the first 400 attendees each day will receive a special anniversary souvenir, and all attendees will enjoy a multitude of anniversary specials. Additional retail and bucket promotions will be prominently displayed throughout the showroom floor.

The Father of Ice Fishing Honored

The 30th annual St. Paul Ice Fishing & Winter Sports Show is dedicated to the man considered the “father of modern ice fishing,” Dave Genz, age 76 of St. Cloud. Genz will be honored with a special award for his many contributions to the ice fishing sport. Genz was a teenager when his dad constructed what might have been the world's first portable ice fishing shelter. Genz has been a proponent of the sport ever since.

Benefitting the Community 

The St. Paul Ice Fishing & Winter Sports Show will be recognizing charities and non-profit organizations such as Folds of Honor, Fishing for Life, and Keep It Clean.

Folds of Honor and CLAM are working together to carry the organizations' mission. Folds of Honor is a non-profit organization that provides life-changing scholarships to the spouses and children of America’s fallen or disabled military and first responders. Since 2007, the organization has awarded 44,000 educational scholarships. The new scholarship season opens February 1, 2024.

Fishing for Life uses hands-on fishing events and mentoring programs to impact the lives of at-risk youth and families in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. 

Keep It Clean addresses the growing problem of garbage and waste left on the ice by anglers, campers and recreationists through education, legislation and enforcement. The Keep It Clean bill was signed into law in May 2023, making it illegal to place garbage and waste on or under the ice on Minnesota’s lakes and rivers.

Learning Can Be Fun

Aspiring young pros will meet members of the Junior Ice Team who will answer questions during a session on December 2 at 3 p.m. Parents can attend a wide variety of seminars and meet some of their favorite professionals, including the hosts of the popular YouTube series Crappie Chronicles; tips for catching more and bigger fish; tricks for walleye, panfish and pike; and rigging an ATV for ice fishing.

There will also be a Kids Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, December 2, sponsored by Thorne Brothers. Kids will be given a card to look for items and answer questions about ice fishing and will receive a prize after they fill up their card. Kids ages five to 11 are eligible to participate.
